Heritage University is hiring an Assistant Professor of Psychology starting August 2021. Area of expertise is open, but should be able to teach classes in clinical/counseling areas. We are open in terms of exact background/education of applicants!
Heritage is a small, private, rural college located within the Yakama Nation. We are both a Hispanic Serving and Native Serving, Non-tribal Institution. Nearly all of our students are first-generation and Pell-eligible, in addition to being local to the Yakima Valley.Heritage embraces “transformational student-centered education that cultivates leadership and a commitment to the promotion of a more just society.” The ability to work with students who have been traditionally underserved by higher education is essential.
This is a teaching-focused position. Classes are small and we do what we can to minimize preps and scheduling difficulties. It's a collaborative, kind, student-oriented place. It's a great position for someone who wants to be involved in the community - we're encouraged to be a true resource for the surrounding towns and the Yakama Nation. We're one of the only (maybe only?) 4 year non-tribal institution situated on tribal land - it's a unique place.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, vita, teaching statement, diversity statement, unofficial transcripts, and three reference letters to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 18, 2020.The diversity statement should explain how you have demonstrated your commitment to educational equity and how you would help facilitate a diverse and equitable community at Heritage in your teaching, mentoring, outreach, research, and/or service.
Studies have shown that candidates are less likely to apply for jobs if they do not meet every listed qualification. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be someone who comes from a less traditional background.
