Call for Submissions of Exemplary Syllabi for Diversity Content

Do you integrate diversity issues into your psychology courses? We would like to recognize your efforts and facilitate the sharing of good ideas.

The Society for the Teaching of Psychology Diversity Committee invites submissions of syllabi of traditional psychology courses (e.g., Introductory, Abnormal, and Statistics) that heavily incorporate diversity content.

How to Submit: Submit your syllabi for review by the Project Syllabus Team and add a request for a review specifically for diversity content by sending an electronic copy or URL to Sue Frantz, Associate Director for Project Syllabus, at syllabus@teachpsych.org. Only syllabi approved by the Project Syllabus Team will be considered by the diversity committee.

Review Process: Once syllabi are evaluated for overall content, those approved for posting on the Project Syllabus site will be forwarded by author request to the diversity committee for review of diversity content. Syllabi approved will be noted as exemplary syllabi for diversity content.

Exemplary syllabi should have some, if not all, of the following:
1. Diversity as a stated goal/objective.
2. Policies that respect cultural diversity in the classroom and students’ diverse cultural backgrounds.
3. Assignments/activities/films/readings that:

  • are required of everyone in the class
  • encourage the development of cultural diversity self-awareness, knowledge, and skills;
  • address multiple cultural issues;
  • attend to the intersections of multiple diversity groups; and
  • support diverse talents and ways of learning

4. Students’ diversity knowledge, awareness, and/or skills are evaluated.
